God dreams big, wants to transform world, defeat evil, pope says

God is right by the side of each person on Earth, seeing each individual's pain and wanting to bring hope and joy, Pope Francis said. "He calls us by name and tells us, 'Rise up, stop weeping, because I have come to free you,'" the pope said May 17 at his weekly general audience in St. Peter's Square. The pope continued his series of talks on Christian hope by looking at the Gospel of John's account of St. Mary Magdalene visiting Jesus' tomb. She was the first to go to the tomb after his burial, he said, pointing out that the same love and loyalty can be seen today in the many women who head to the cemetery, visiting their dearly departed for years, showing how not even death can break the bonds of love.

In Mary Magdalene's case, however, she experienced not only the sadness of Christ's death, but also the discovery that his body had disappeared, the pope said. READ MORE

Ambassadors advise Trump, Francis to mend fences in upcoming meeting

Although Pope Francis said Saturday he will not be seeking to soften U.S. President Donald Trump's policies during their meeting next week, the encounter is doubtless a rare opportunity for a global moral voice to influence a leader who keeps an unusually tight circle of advisors. The range of possible issues up for discussion during the May 24 tête-à-tête is vast. Francis could compare Trump's withdrawing of federal environmental regulations with his 2015 ecological encyclical Laudato Si'. Or the pontiff could sharpen his earlier public critique of the planned U.S.-Mexico border wall. "The significance of this meeting can't be understated," said Douglas Kmiec, a Republican who served as former President Obama's first ambassador to Malta. "Francis could change the course of the times that we live in." READ MORE

CaSPA and ACPPA Response to funding

CaSPA and ACPPA would like to emphasise that our Catholic systems' current funding arrangements have proven efficiencies and allows for system co-responsibility to support schools in need - some of whom charge no fees. CaSPA and ACPPA urges you to reconsider the proposed arrangements that could interfere with the collaborative and co-responsibility strengths of the Catholic education sector.

The Catholic principals stand in solidarity with the Catholic education systems and they support system funding and the co-responsibility that goes with it. Hence, Catholic school principals stand united with the broader Catholic school community in the face of a deliberate strategy by the Government to undermine the system by pitting principal against principal, school against school (evidenced by the misleading letters to each school and the funding estimator website).
