The Baltimore archdiocese, along with many other dioceses throughout the country, is heavily engaged in pursuing the work of a new evangelization. A carefully structured process is being [1] developed which includes surveys, lay participation, and focus groups. The goal appears to be developing a program for producing missionary disciples. But what is this new evangelization? This is a real question as exemplified by the fact that it is taking a rather extraordinary process to determine what it is, and what is to be done about it. What would these new missionary disciples actually do? Pope Francis and his predecessors have indicated the importance of this new initiative. Members of the pope's commission for child protection, including an abuse survivor, have been speaking with new bishops and major Vatican offices as part of a mandate to develop and educate the church about best practices. Pope Francis also approved the establishment of a day of prayer for survivors of abuse, but decided it will be up to each nation's bishops' conference to decide when the memorial should be held, according a press release Sept. 12 from the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors. 2 PhD Scholarship Opportunities

This research, including the two PhD scholarships, is funded through an Australian Research Council Linkage grant. The scholarship recipients will work collaboratively with the research team as an integral part of the entire project and lead specific projects under the umbrella of the larger study. National Catholic Education Commission executive director Ross Fox has said simplistic school funding analysis released by the Australian Education Union today risks undermining the important debate about how students in all Australian schools will be supported in their education. Mr Fox said the AEU should be part of that national conversation, but instead the AEU has published analysis that ignores the facts about school funding and the shared funding responsibilities between states and the Commonwealth. Catholic education will be working to support the education of students in all Australian schools, Mr Fox said. SSTS Travel Passes

Please be advised of the latest advice from Transport for NSW regarding School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) travel pass applications for 2017. From Monday 10 October 2016, parents, guardians and students over 16 years, will be able to apply for a 2017 SSTS travel pass by visiting www.transportnsw.info/school-students Most students will not need to submit a new application. Holders of Student Opal cards will keep them for 2017, although they will be deactivated for the school holidays. Rural and regional students travelling with operator-issued passes will receive a new pass in the new school year.


COAG have recently added a great free textbook resource, Open Textbook Library, to their Smartcopying website.  All the textbooks on the website have been funded, published, and licensed to be freely used, adapted, and distributed. These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality. These books can be viewed online and downloaded for no cost​. We list Open Education Resources and Creative Commons material on our Smartcopying website and update them regularly, so keep an eye on the following pages.
